How It Should Fit

The Bondi 9 fits true to size for most women, with a roomy, high-volume shape that easily takes a thicker sock or a custom orthotic. Fit the foot, not a brand rule — sizing can shift version to version, so go by what your foot tells you.

Thumb's widthLeave about a thumbnail's width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. If your longest toe touches the end, go up a full size to start.
Play the pianoYour toes should be able to wiggle and splay freely. Cramped toes mean size up; a sloppy forefoot means size down.
Midfoot hugThe midfoot should feel held, not pinched. The Bondi's knit upper wraps securely once laced.
A little heel slip is fineSome heel movement on early steps is normal and not a reason to size down — it usually settles once the shoe is broken in.

Width: available in Regular (B), Wide (D), and Extra-Wide (2E). Your foot should sit on the platform, not spill over the sides. If it spills over, go wider — not longer.

Sock tip: a medium-thickness running sock (like Balega Hidden Comfort) pairs best; the roomy fit handles it without feeling tight.

Technical Specifications
Here's exactly what you're standing on — and what each number means for your run or your workday.
Heel Stack Height
43 mmOne of the tallest stacks HOKA makes — where the deep, protective cushioning comes from.
Forefoot Stack Height
38 mmPlenty of foam under the ball of the foot, so push-off stays soft on hard surfaces.
Heel-to-Toe Drop
5 mmA low-to-moderate drop that keeps weight balanced across the foot — part of why it's so comfortable for standing all day.
Weight
9.3 oz (women's, HOKA size)Substantial, as max-cushion shoes go. You feel it less than the number suggests because the MetaRocker rolls you forward.
Midsole Technology
Supercritical EVANew for the Bondi 9 — a lighter, softer, more resilient foam than the old midsole, with more spring and less pack-out.
Outsole Material
Durabrasion rubberTough rubber placed in high-wear zones for road durability.
Upper Material
Engineered knit/mesh, zonal breathabilityA structured knit upper with a 3D-molded collar and zonal venting that keeps air moving for everyday and warm-weather wear.
Fit Type
Standard, roomy / high-volumeAccommodating through the midfoot and toe box — easy to fit a thicker sock or an orthotic.
Pronation Category
NeutralA neutral shoe with no posting. Its wide, built-out base makes it feel planted, so it works for neutral runners and for many who want a steadier, supported feel. Whether you need more support depends on your whole foot and how it loads — not on pronation alone — which is best sorted in a fit session.
Primary Use Case
Daily trainingEasy and long road miles at comfortable paces.
Secondary Use Cases
Walking · recovery · all-day wear · treadmillA go-to for long shifts on hard floors, recovery days, travel, and indoor miles.

Why this Shoe Works

Gray running shoe with a white sole on a light gray background

The softest landing HOKA makes.

Supercritical EVA is the upgrade that matters here: the foam in the Bondi 9 compresses deep and springs back without the dead, packed-out feeling older max-cushion shoes develop. Hard pavement stops feeling hard, and your knees are the first to notice. Soft where it counts, mile after mile.

Stable without being a stability shoe

Width is the trick. The Bondi 9 builds its base out wide under the midfoot and forefoot, so the platform feels planted even though there's no posting steering your stride. Neutral runners get a steady ride, and taller or heavier runners stop feeling tippy up on the tall stack. Planted, not preachy.

A rocker that does the work for you

Roll, don't push. The smooth MetaRocker shape in the Bondi 9 curves the sole from heel to toe so every step tips forward on its own — a real help when your legs are tired or a shift is long. The result is less effort per step, repeated thousands of times a day.

Built For How You Move

Built for easy daily miles

Base miles are where the Bondi 9 lives. At a conversational pace on Phoenix pavement, the soft stack swallows the pounding so you can stack up easy mileage without beating your legs up. It was never built to be fast — it's built to be comfortable and repeatable, day after day. Easy miles, easier on you.

Made for the long shift

Concrete is brutal on feet, and twelve hours of it is worse. Nurses, teachers, and warehouse crews reach for the Bondi 9 because the wide base and tall cushion keep pressure off the heels and balls of the feet from clock-in to clock-out. Stand all day; feel it less.

The recovery-run reset

After a hard workout, your legs want forgiveness, not feedback. A long, slow walk or an easy shakeout in the Bondi 9 lets beat-up muscles move without sharp impact — the plush ride handles the cushioning so your body can get on with the healing. Active recovery that actually feels like recovery.

Who Is the HOKA Bondi 9 For?

The HOKA Bondi 9 (women's) is for the runner or walker who puts comfort and impact protection at the top of the list.

Think easy-to-moderate daily mileage — recovery runs, long slow distance, and base-building rather than speed sessions. It suits neutral gaits, and it also works well for people who simply want the planted, stable feel of a wide base.

It's a longtime favorite of heavier and taller runners who pound out the miles, and of nurses, teachers, warehouse crews, and anyone logging 8–12 hours on hard floors.

If your feet, knees, or hips ache by evening — or you're climbing out of a hard training block — this is the shoe that takes the edge off.

Who Should Skip It

We'd rather point you to the right shoe than sell you the wrong one. Skip the Bondi 9 if…

You want speed or race-day pop

Built soft to protect, not to pop. For faster days, try the Saucony Endorphin Speed or ASICS Superblast 3.

You want a lower, more structured ride

The Bondi sits you high on soft, neutral foam. For something lower and steadier underfoot, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 is the easy swap.

You need more support than a neutral platform gives

Whether you need support depends on your whole foot, not just "overpronation" — and it isn't only about posting. If a fit session shows you need more, we'll sort it in the shop.

You're heading off-road

It's a road shoe. For trails, a max-cushion option like the Altra Olympus 6 or HOKA Stinson 7 keeps the plush feel with real grip.

How it Compares

Nike Women's Vomero Plus Purple running shoe with Nike logo on a white background

HOKA Bondi 9 vs. Brooks Ghost Max 3

The Bondi is taller and softer (43/38 mm, 5 mm drop) with a smoother rocker; the Ghost Max 3 sits lower and firmer (39/33 mm, 6 mm drop), runs a touch roomier, and costs less (~$160 vs $175).
Choose the Bondi 9 for the softest, most rockered ride. Choose the Ghost Max 3 for a roomier, firmer-stable walking and recovery feel at a lower price. We carry both.

Brooks Women's Glycerin 23 white and pink running shoes with black laces

HOKA Clifton 10 vs. Brooks Glycerin 23

These two now share the exact same 38/30 mm stack and 8 mm drop, but they ride differently. The Clifton 10 is lighter (8.8 vs 9.5 oz), firmer, and smoother-rolling, at a lower price; the Glycerin 23 uses softer, bouncier DNA Tuned foam and a plusher knit upper for a more premium, cushioned feel.
Choose the Clifton 10 for a lighter, smoother, higher volume upper trainer. Choose the Glycerin 23 for a softer, plusher ride. We carry both

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the HOKA Bondi 9 good for walking and standing all day?
Yes — it's one of the best shoes we carry for it. The tall, soft stack and wide base take pressure off your heels and the balls of your feet, which is why nurses, teachers, and anyone on hard floors for 8–12 hours keep coming back to the Bondi. The 5 mm drop keeps your weight balanced so you don't get pushed onto your forefoot late in a shift.
Is the Bondi 9 a neutral or a stability shoe? Will it work if I overpronate?
The Bondi 9 is a neutral shoe — there's no posting built into it. But its wide, built-out base under the midfoot and forefoot gives it a planted, steady feel, and plenty of people who overpronate run happily in it. Here's the honest part: overpronation by itself doesn't decide whether you need support, and support isn't only about posting — plenty of supportive shoes have none. What actually matters is your whole foot and how it loads: width, instep height, girth, arch length, and where you feel pressure or pain. (High arches can still need support — for plantar fasciitis or midfoot pain, the right contouring underfoot relieves pressure.) That's what we sort out in person at our Glendale shop, and the Bondi may well be the answer.
Is the Bondi 9 good for wide feet?
Often, yes — it comes in Regular (B), Wide (D), and Extra-Wide (2E), and the standard width already runs roomy and high-volume. But "wide" is a blanket term, and the foot is three-dimensional: width is only one piece, alongside instep height, girth (the distance around the foot), and arch length. A foot that's broad at the ball might be average everywhere else, or need more room over the top than across. Your foot should sit on the platform without spilling over the sides — and if it spills, go wider, not longer. The surest way to get it right is to have both feet measured and looked at in person in Glendale.
Is the Bondi 9 true to size?
For most men, yes — order your normal size. Leave about a thumbnail's width past your longest toe, and make sure your toes can wiggle. The fit is roomy, so it handles a thicker sock or an orthotic well. A little heel slip on the first few steps is normal and isn't a reason to size down.
Is the Bondi 9 breathable enough for Phoenix heat?
Yes. The Bondi 9's engineered mesh upper has zonal breathability that keeps air moving, so it stays comfortable on warm Phoenix mornings, on the treadmill, and through long days on your feet. For all-day wear and easy miles it breathes well; if you're doing peak-summer speed sessions, a thinner racing mesh will always feel airier, but that's not what the Bondi is for.
What's different about the Bondi 9 versus the Bondi 8?
Three things, all aimed at comfort. HOKA switched to a lighter, softer supercritical-EVA foam, added 2 mm of stack height (now 43/38 mm in (women's), and retooled the collar and upper with a more accommodating knit. The short version: the Bondi 9 is softer and a touch lighter than the 8, without losing the planted, protective feel.
How is the Bondi 9 different from the HOKA Clifton 10?
The Clifton is the lighter, lower, more versatile everyday shoe; the Bondi is the taller, plusher, more protective one. The Clifton sits at a higher 8 mm drop and weighs less, so it can handle a faster day. Pick the Bondi if max cushioning and all-day comfort are the priority; pick the Clifton if you want one shoe that can also pick up the pace. We carry both and can put them side by side for you.
How many miles will the Bondi 9 last?
Plan on roughly 400–500 miles of running before the cushioning is worn down, which is typical for a max-cushion daily trainer. The Durabrasion rubber outsole is one of the more durable around, so walkers and all-day wearers often get many months out of a pair. When the soft, springy feel fades, that's your cue it's time for a new one.
What's your return policy?
Our "You = Happy" policy gives you 60 days from purchase for a refund, exchange, or store credit. Refunds need the shoes in like-new condition; worn-but-not-worn-out pairs can still earn an exchange or store credit. Receipt or purchase-history lookup required. The Bondi 9 isn't carbon-plated, so it's fully returnable (clearance and plated shoes are final sale). Online orders can be mailed back or returned in person in Glendale to skip shipping. Why Our Team Recommends the Hoda Bondi 9

Ask anyone on our floor for the most cushioned, most forgiving shoe in the shop and the Bondi 9 is the first name out of our mouths.

We put it on runners coming back from a hard training block, on customers whose feet, knees, or hips ache by evening, and on the nurses, teachers, and on-their-feet-all-day folks who make up so much of the West Valley crowd. The reasons are concrete, not hype: maximum cushion takes the sting out of pavement and concrete, a wide base that feels planted without steering your stride, and a smooth rocker that keeps you rolling when your legs are tired.

It also carries the APMA Seal of Acceptance, which matters to the foot-health-minded customers we fit every week. The Hoka Bondi is one of the most consistent recommendations we make for comfort and protection.
