The Clifton, Reimagined — Your Everyday Mile, Made Easier

Whether you're logging your first mile or your five-thousandth, the Clifton has been a go-to in our store for a reason: it just works. This next chapter brings HOKA's PROGLIDE™+ series technology into the trainer you already trust — same smooth, ultra-cushioned feel you love, tuned up to glide even better underfoot.

We've fit hundreds of runners into Cliftons over the years, and this update doesn't chase trends — it just makes the everyday shoe better at being the everyday shoe.

Best For: Everyday Runs — the easy miles, the recovery days, the ones that build the base for everything else.

What's New & What You'll Feel:

  • PROGLIDE™+ midsole with SCF foam — a springier, more efficient ride that still feels unmistakably Clifton
  • Aggressive MetaRocker™ geometry — smooths your stride from heel to toe, mile after mile
  • Breathable engineered mesh upper — keeps things cool and locked-in through Arizona heat or early loops
  • Comfort collar — no break-in period, no rubbing, just put it on and go
  • Reflective details — for the early risers and post-work sunset crew
  • Podular outsole design — flexes naturally with your foot for a smoother roll
  • Durabrasion rubber forefoot + super abrasion rubber heel — built to hold up to real mileage, not just showroom miles

Not sure if the Clifton's your shoe? Come find us — we'll get you into the 5 Point Fit Process and make sure whatever you walk out in actually fits your stride, not just the hype.

How the HOKA Clifton PRO Should Fit

Where it should fit snug — and where it shouldn’t

A good fit hugs the midfoot, locks the heel, and leaves your toes room to move — with your foot sitting on top of the platform.

1 2 3
1
Toe box — room to play the piano

You want about a thumbnail’s width between your longest toe and the end, and enough room that your toes can move freely — your toes should be able to “play the piano.”

2
Midfoot — it should hug

The streamlined, performance-tuned upper should wrap your midfoot snugly with no pinching across the top — a secure hold that stays put when you pick up the pace.

3
Heel — locked in

The heel should feel held with minimal slip. Use a runner’s (heel-lock) lacing if you want even more security for fast reps and turns.

Stay on the platform: Your foot should sit on top of the shoe’s platform and not hang off the sides. If your foot spills over the edge, you need a wider option, not a longer size.

How a good fit should feel

Stand up, walk a few steps, and check these before you decide.

Signs it fits

  • A thumbnail’s width between your longest toe and the end
  • Toes move freely — room to “play the piano”
  • Midfoot feels hugged and secure
  • Heel feels locked in with little slip
  • Your foot sits on top of the platform, not over the sides

Signs to size or width-adjust

  • × Longest toe touches the end → go up a full size to start
  • × Pinching across the toes → size up
  • × Foot spills over the edge of the platform → you need more width, not length
  • × Heel slips a lot → try heel-lock lacing or a half-size down
  • × Pressure across the top of the foot → you may need more volume

Coming from a Clifton?

It feels smoother

The Clifton PRO is the smoothest, most pace-friendly Clifton yet. It keeps the tall, cushioned platform you know, now on the PROGLIDE+ system — rebound-boosting SCF EVA foam plus an updated rocker geometry that rolls you through each stride a little quicker. Same signature Clifton cushion, tuned to pick up the pace.

Switching brands?

Coming from Brooks, ASICS, Nike, or another brand? Don’t assume a half-size up — fit varies by model and version, so go by how this shoe fits your foot, not a brand rule.

Time of day

Try shoes later in the day when feet are at their largest, and fit to your bigger foot — almost everyone has one.

Sock tip: Fit the Clifton PRO with the socks you’ll actually run in. A thin-to-midweight performance running sock (like Balega Hidden Comfort) gives the truest fit — thick cotton socks crowd the toe box and trap heat.

Not sure? Get fit in person.

Sizing is easier to feel than to guess. Visit us in Glendale and our staff will watch you run, check your fit on the actual pair, and make sure the Clifton PRO is right for your stride.

Why this Shoe Works

Navy Hoka Men's Clifton 10 running shoe with white sole on a light gray background

A smooth roll from heel to toe

Early in a run, the MetaRocker geometry does the steering — the Clifton 10's gently curved sole tips you forward so each stride rolls instead of thuds. It's the unfussy, repeatable feel that's kept the Clifton a daily driver for a decade. Smooth in, smooth out.

Steady underfoot, by design

Wider than the Cliftons before it, this version plants a broad base under your foot and adds a rearfoot Active Foot Frame that cups your heel. The result is a neutral shoe that feels calm and secure with no wobble up on the cushion. Planted and predictable, mile after mile.

More cushion, more forgiveness

Taller than older Cliftons, the Clifton 10 stacks 38 mm of soft CMEVA foam under the heel with a higher 8 mm drop — a combination that's easy on the calves and Achilles and forgiving for heel strikers. It also carries the APMA Seal of Acceptance. Comfort that holds up all day.

Built For How You Move

Your steady daily trainer

Easy miles are the Clifton 10's bread and butter. At a relaxed pace on Glendale roads, the smooth rocker and soft stack make repeatable training feel effortless, day after day. It won't make you fast — it'll make showing up easy. The shoe you reach for without thinking.

All-day comfort on hard floors

Long shifts are brutal on feet, and the Clifton 10 is a favorite for them — light for its cushion, breathable up top, and planted underfoot from the first hour to the twelfth. Nurses, teachers, and West Valley walkers swear by it. On your feet all day, feeling it less.

Long runs without the pounding

When the miles add up, the taller stack earns its keep: the Clifton 10's cushion stays consistent past the 10-mile mark, and the higher drop keeps tired calves happy. A dependable partner for half-marathon base-building. Goes the distance, stays comfortable.

Who Is the HOKA Clifton 10 For?

The HOKA (men's) Clifton 10 is for the runner or walker who wants a smooth, cushioned, no-drama daily shoe he can put on without thinking.

It fits easy-to-moderate mileage — daily training, long slow runs, and base-building rather than speed sessions — and suits neutral gaits as well as anyone who just wants a planted, stable ride from a wide base.

Beginners love how easy it is to run in; heel strikers appreciate the higher 8 mm drop; and with three widths it fits a broad range of feet (just note the standard runs a touch narrow). It's also one of our most-recommended shoes for nurses, teachers, warehouse crews, and West Valley guys who spend long days on hard floors.

Who Should Skip the HOKA Clifton PRO?

Who Should Skip It?

The Clifton PRO is a tall, cushioned, pace-pushing neutral trainer — so it’s not the right shoe for everyone. Here’s when we’d point you somewhere else (and we carry the alternatives).

  • You want a stability or support shoe. This is a neutral shoe with no guidance built in. If you overpronate or have been told you need support, try the HOKA Arahi 8 instead.
  • You want less cushion or a firmer, lower ride. The Clifton PRO sits on a tall, max-cushion platform. If you’d rather have a lower, firmer feel with more ground contact, try the New Balance 880.
  • You want a carbon-plated race shoe. The Clifton PRO is a cushioned trainer, not a super shoe. For an all-out, plated PR-day racer, try the Nike Vaporfly 4.
  • You’re running trails. This is a road and treadmill shoe. For dirt or technical terrain, try the HOKA Speedgoat 7.

Not sure if it’s right for you? Come see us in Glendale and we’ll match you to the right shoe.

How it Compares

Green Nike Men's Vomero plus running shoe with Nike logo on a white background

HOKA Clifton 10 vs. Nike Vomero Plus

The Vomero Plus is the bigger, bouncier shoe — a ~45/35 mm stack of energetic ZoomX foam at a 10 mm drop — versus the Clifton's lower 38/30 mm of smooth, firmer CMEVA at 8 mm. The Clifton is higher volume on the upper, a slightly larger toe box and more stable; the Vomero Plus delivers more cushion and real pop for long runs.
Choose the Clifton 10 for a stable, no-frills, daily trainer. Choose the Vomero Plus for a plush, bouncy max-cushion ride with more energy return. We carry both.

Green and black Brooks Mens Glycerin 23 running shoe with 'Brooks' branding on a white background

HOKA Clifton 10 vs. Brooks Glycerin 23

These two now share the exact same 38/30 mm stack and 8 mm drop, but they ride differently. The Clifton 10 is lighter (8.8 vs 9.5 oz), firmer, and smoother-rolling, at a lower price; the Glycerin 23 uses softer, bouncier DNA Tuned foam and a plusher knit upper for a more premium, cushioned feel.
Choose the Clifton 10 for a lighter, smoother, trainer. Choose the Glycerin 23 for a softer, plusher ride . We carry both.

HOKA Clifton PRO — Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Clifton PRO different from the regular Clifton?

HOKA calls the Clifton PRO “our smoothest Clifton yet.” It keeps the tall, cushioned Clifton platform (42/34 mm, 8 mm drop in men’s) but adds the new PROGLIDE+ system — rebound-boosting SCF EVA foam plus an updated rocker geometry — for a smoother, more pace-friendly ride.

Next to the standard Clifton 11 ($150, CMEVA foam), the PRO ($165) is the more progressive, performance-leaning version: same cushioned comfort, tuned to roll you into a quicker rhythm when you push. If you want the classic soft daily cruiser, the Clifton 11 is great; if you want that cushion with more pace, choose the PRO.

Is the Clifton PRO good for speed workouts and track sessions?

Yes — that’s where it shines. The high energy return and rolling, responsive ride make it a great pick for tempo runs, fartleks, track workouts, and speed sessions, while still being cushioned enough to handle your daily and long runs.

Can I race in the Clifton PRO?

You can. It’s a fast, energetic trainer that’s well suited to 5K, 10K, and half-marathon efforts, especially if you like one versatile shoe to train and race in. It’s a high-performance trainer rather than a dedicated carbon super shoe — if you want an all-out PR-day racer, ask us and we’ll show you the plated options we carry.

How does the Clifton PRO compare to the ASICS Superblast and Brooks Ghost Amp?

All three are energetic, do-it-all neutral trainers that can cruise or pick up the pace. The ASICS Superblast is the tall, max-stack bouncy option many runners love for long efforts; the Brooks Ghost Amp is a lighter, lower-drop, pop-focused trainer. The Clifton PRO sits right in that fast-trainer conversation with its PROGLIDE+ rebound and rolling ride.

We carry all three — come in and we’ll let you run in them back-to-back to feel the differences. [VERIFY competitor specs on each brand’s site]

Is the Clifton PRO a neutral or stability shoe?

It’s a neutral shoe — no built-in support posts or guidance. If you overpronate or have been told you need stability, ask us about a support shoe instead. Come see us in Glendale and we’ll check your gait and point you to the right one.

Does the Clifton PRO run true to size?

For most people, yes — but fit is personal, so go by your foot, not a rule. You want about a thumbnail’s width between your longest toe and the end, toes free to move, and a midfoot that feels hugged. If your longest toe touches the end, go up a full size to start, or come in and we’ll dial it in on the actual pair.

What colors does the Clifton PRO come in?

The Clifton PRO comes in a range of colorways, and the lineup changes through the season. Check the color options on this page for what’s available now, or ask us what’s in stock in Glendale. [VERIFY current colorways & sizes in stock]

What’s your return policy?

We want you to love what you run in — that’s the whole idea behind our “You = Happy” Return Policy. You have 60 days from your purchase date to return your shoes for a refund, exchange, or store credit.

  • To be eligible for a refund, shoes must be returned in like-new condition.
  • Changed your mind after a few runs? As long as they aren’t worn out, we can still help with an exchange or store credit.
  • A receipt is required — lost it? If you have a customer profile with us, we can look up your purchase history.
  • Card refunds go back to the same card used for the original purchase.
  • Online orders can be mailed back (return shipping is the customer’s responsibility) or returned in-store in Glendale to skip shipping.
  • Clearance items and plated (carbon-plate) shoes are final sale.

Why Our Team Recommends the Hoka Clifton 10

We put the Hoka Clifton 10 on new runners who want something forgiving, on customers logging daily miles who want one reliable trainer, and on the nurses, teachers, and all-day-on-their-feet folks across the West Valley.

The reasons are concrete: a smooth MetaRocker that rolls you along, a wide base and Active Foot Frame that keep you steady, and a taller, higher-drop stack that's easy on tired legs — plus the APMA Seal of Acceptance for the foot-health-minded.

It's not our pick for speed days, and if you loved the old soft, low Clifton we'll tell you how this one's changed — but for smooth, dependable comfort, it's one of our safest recommendations.
