How It Should Fit
How It Should Fit
Where it should fit snug — and where it shouldn’t
A good fit hugs the midfoot, gives your toes room to move, and keeps your foot sitting on top of the platform — and a little heel slip is normal, not a problem.
You want about a thumbnail’s width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe, and enough room that your toes can move freely — as we say, your toes should be able to “play the piano.”
The shoe should hug your midfoot: secure and supported with no pinching across the top. The 8 runs a touch higher-volume than the Arahi 7, so it suits medium-to-fuller insteps.
Some slipping in the heel is normal and expected — it isn’t a reason to size down. The fit should feel held and comfortable, not vice-tight, and a small amount of movement settles in as you break the shoe in.
How a good fit should feel
Stand up, walk a few steps, and check these before you decide.
Signs it fits
- ✓ A thumbnail’s width between your longest toe and the end
- ✓ Toes can move freely — room to “play the piano”
- ✓ Midfoot feels hugged and secure
- ✓ A little heel movement — some slip is normal and fine
- ✓ Your foot sits on top of the platform, not over the sides
Signs to size or width-adjust
- × Longest toe touches the end → go up a full size to start
- × Toes can’t move / pinching across the toes → size up or try Wide (D) / Extra-Wide (2E)
- × Pressure on a bunion → try Wide (D) or Extra-Wide (2E)
- × Foot spills over the edge of the platform → you need more width, not length
- × Pressure across the top of the foot → you may need more volume
Should you size up or down?
Coming from another HOKA (Clifton, Bondi, Gaviota): stay in your usual HOKA size.
Coming from Brooks, Saucony, Altra, or another brand? Don’t assume a half-size up — fit varies by model and by version, so go by how this shoe actually fits your foot, not by a brand rule. When in doubt, try the size on either side.
Between sizes? Your foot shape matters more than the half-size. A high-volume foot or wider forefoot usually does better going up or switching width rather than squeezing into standard.
Try shoes later in the day when feet are at their largest, and fit to your bigger foot — almost everyone has one.
Choosing your width
The Arahi 8 comes in three women’s widths.
The default. Right for most feet with an average forefoot and instep.
For wider forefeet, a fuller instep, or mild bunions that need more room.
For notably wide feet or when Wide still feels tight across the toes.

Sizing is easier to feel than to guess. Visit us in Glendale and our staff will watch you walk, check your fit and width on the actual pair, and make sure the Arahi 8 is right for your stride — before you commit.
