Nike Pegasus 42: The Everyday Runner Gets More Responsive
The Nike Pegasus 42 takes one of Nike's most recognizable everyday running shoes and gives it a more energetic ride, an updated fit and a new full-length Air Zoom experience.
Nike combines a full-length, curved Air Zoom unit with ReactX foam to create responsive cushioning from heel to toe-off. Compared with the Pegasus 41, Nike also added more room through the forefoot and toe box and increased the toe spring for a smoother, more propulsive transition.
At Tortoise & Hare Sports, we'd put the Pegasus 42 in the versatile category: a dependable road running shoe that can handle daily miles, walking, gym days and whatever else your week throws at you.
What Is the Nike Pegasus 42 Best For?
- Everyday road running
- Daily training
- Short to moderate runs
- Walking
- Gym and fitness
- Travel and all-day wear
- Runners wanting responsive cushioning without a carbon plate
What's New in the Nike Pegasus 42?
The biggest change is underneath your foot. Instead of the separate forefoot and heel Air Zoom units used in previous Pegasus models, the Pegasus 42 uses a sculpted full-length Air Zoom unit.
Nike also updated the silhouette for greater toe spring and created additional room in the forefoot and toe box compared with the Pegasus 41.
ReactX + Full-Length Air Zoom
The Pegasus 42 pairs ReactX foam with a full-length Air Zoom unit for responsive cushioning and an energized heel-to-toe transition. Nike states that ReactX is 13% more responsive than its previous React technology.
More Room Up Front
If you felt crowded in previous Pegasus models, pay attention to this update. Nike revised the fit to provide a little more space around the toes and forefoot compared with the Pegasus 41.
Breathable Upper
A lightweight mesh upper is designed to feel softer and more breathable, helping keep your feet comfortable through everyday training.
Waffle Outsole
Nike's updated Waffle outsole uses high-abrasion rubber and flex grooves to balance traction, flexibility and durability for road running.

The Pegasus 42 is designed as a responsive everyday road running shoe rather than a dedicated support shoe. If you prefer more structured guidance and stability, the Nike Structure 26 may be the better place to start.
Pegasus 42 vs. Vomero 18: What's the Difference?
Choose the Pegasus 42 if you want a versatile, responsive everyday trainer with ReactX and full-length Air Zoom. Choose the Vomero 18 if your priority is maximum cushioning and a softer, more protective feel.
THS Fit Tip: Don't choose your running shoe based only on the size printed on your casual shoes. Leave enough room in front of your toes for natural movement and foot expansion while making sure the midfoot feels comfortably secure.
Embrace Your Pace.
